Jump Ship… and Lose Your Benefits
An estimated 1.5 million workers who otherwise would have switched jobs or careers fail to do so every year because of fears about health insurance, lowering the quality of – or even losing outright – their current benefits. This trap of sorts is referred to as “job lock,” and in many ways is ammunition enough for meaningful health care reform (accessible, affordable). In fact, studies estimate that job mobility among the workforce is reduced by 26 percent to 31 percent due to lack of portable health care… the dreams of many entrepreneurs-in-the-making of becoming The Next Big Thing effectively snuffed out.
